Marvel Comics June 2022 Solicitations Highlights

There is a lot of cool stuff in this week’s Marvel Comics June 2022 solicitations, so much so that we as a team collectively struggled to narrow our list down to just 10 highlights (the completely arbitrary cutoff we generally use for this sort of list). I had to make painful cuts like the new Daredevil #1 issue, The Thing TPB, and — most painful of all — the new Ant-Man miniseries (which looks fun as all get out). Anyway, check out the picks that did make the cut from our staff discussion below…as always you can find the full Marvel June 2022 solicitations via our friends at The Beat.

Enjoy!

Why It’s Cool: It’s about time this omnibus got a new printing, but also, I think any major Perez work going back into print is cool. At the same time, these just so happen to be the first Avengers comics I ever read, and still the run I remember most fondly. Looking forward to snagging it for my shelf. (Zack Quaintance)

CLOBBERIN’ TIME #1 (OF 5) - Due out June 1
STEVE SKROCE (W) • STEVE SKROCE (A/C)
VARIANT COVER BY DAN JURGENS • VARIANT COVER BY GREG SMALLWOOD
STORMBREAKERS VARIANT COVER BY R.B. SILVA
It’s Clobberin’ Time all the time, as Ben Grimm teams up with heroes from across the Marvel Universe for BIG, FIST-POUNDING ACTION! But the stakes have never been higher! In this opening issue, Ben and the Incredible Hulk are stranded on a distant, ancient, alien world, where the duo must protect an ancient people against legions of Deviant hordes and ultimately face the wrath of a Celestial. Luckily, they have four fists between them!
32 PGS./Rated T …$3.99

Why It’s Cool: I’m a big fan of Steve Skroce’s work, and I had no idea he was working on something with Marvel Comics, let alone something as well-suited to his style as a team-up comic that stars The Thing and Hulk. Here’s hoping this one gets messy. (Zack Quaintance)

Hellfire Gala Variant Covers
Appearing on various X-Men comics throughout the month.
I know, I know, the Hellfire Gala literally only exists to sell some variants. Yes, I will be playing right into Marvel’s grubby little paws by buying them. But what am I supposed to do? Ignore Russel Dauterman high fashion designs? Ignore the Captains America in their Sunday bests? Or worse, skip out on a Dauterman Spider-Man? No, I don’t think I will. (Keigen Rea)

Hellfire Gala Variant for Wolverine #22 by Russell Dauterman.

IRON MAN/HELLCAT ANNUAL #1 - Due Out June 1
CHRISTOPHER CANTWELL (W) • Ruairí Coleman (A) • Cover by Logan Lubera
Variant Cover by Stanley "Artgerm" Lau
VIRGIN VARIANT COVER BY STANLEY "ARTGERM" LAU
Variant Cover by Chrissie Zullo • Variant Cover by Peach Momoko
Spinning out of the pages of IRON MAN, Hellcat travels to San Francisco to get her house in order…only this house is an aging Victorian manor left to her by her mother Dorothy. The house and its secrets will reunite Patsy with old friends like Hedy Wolfe — as well as others she'd hoped to leave dead and buried. When a supernatural crisis arises, will Hellcat and Iron Man combined be enough to beat back the flames of Hell itself?!
40 PGS./ONE-SHOT/Rated T+ …$4.99
Why It’s Cool: Ah yes, that special time in a relationship when a couple most go together to Ikea hell. I think all things about this Iron Man run are cool right now, and that includes the Iron Man/Hellcat relationship, which is getting a spotlight with this annual as the two prepare to marry in the main book. And as I noted last month, superhero weddings are always cool…(Zack Quaintance)

THE MARVEL UNIVERSE COLLIDES WITH FORTNITE!
The inhabitants on the Island are locked in what seems like a never-ending war, and only one thing has the potential to turn the tide – a crystallized fragment of the Zero Point that was cast into the Marvel Universe. Spider-Man and Wolverine team up with several Fornite fighters and new recruit Shuri to hunt down the elusive Zero Shard. Will these allies be able to find it in time and avert catastrophe? And can the heroes of the Marvel and Fortnite realities hold off the Imagined Order long enough to give them a fighting chance?
Epic Games' Chief Creative Officer, Donald Mustard, teams up with veteran Marvel writer Christos Gage (SPIDER-GEDDON, AVENGERS ACADEMY) and artist Sergio Dávila (CAPTAIN MARVEL) for a five-part crossover event with enormous ramifications for both universes! Each first print issue contains a redeemable code to unlock a bonus digital cosmetic in Fortnite! See issue for details.
40 PGS./Rated T+ …$5.99
Why It’s Cool: I’m not the type to care about Fortnite, but last year’s Batman/Fortnite crossover surprised me a little. I knew Fortnite regularly included crossovers with various big franchises (even going so far as hosting plot-central Star Wars information in-game) but I didn’t think DC was going to invest in that relationship through their comics. I knew from experience that Christos Gage could write a good Batman video game tie-in comic, so I figured it’d sell well and be a fun ride and left it at that. The announcement of this comic, however, is a big deal. This one might genuinely have huge ramifications for the industry. Featuring the same writing team as Batman/Fortnite (Gage and Fortnite developer Donald Mustard), Fortnite x Marvel: Zero War could be the first step toward a new age of DC/Marvel crossovers like the ones already happening in the game. Only time will tell, but it feels closer than it has in a long time. (Harry Kassen)

MILES MORALES and MOON GIRL #1 - Due out June 1
Mohale Mashigo (W) • Ig GUARA (A)
Cover by Alitha Martinez
VARIANT COVER BY Peach Momoko
Connecting VARIANT COVER by Khary Randolph
VARIANT COVER BY TODD NAUCK
VARIANT COVER BY Ron Lim
Join Lunella Lafayette – aka Moon Girl – and her trusty T-rex sidekick, Devil Dinosaur, in their biggest adventure yet! In the first of three one-shots, Moon Girl takes on the whole Marvel Universe alongside Miles Morales, the Avengers and the X-Men. Don't miss this new story from acclaimed writer Mohale Mashigo!
40 PGS./ONE-SHOT/Rated T …$4.99
Why It’s Cool: Really, why not? Mashigo is a new voice in comics, but I’m not gonna object to a South African woman writing two Black characters, especially a pairing as fun as this. Getting more Lunella is always a good thing! (Keigen Rea)

DAREDEVIL EPIC COLLECTION: IT COMES WITH THE CLAWS TPB - Due Out August 10, 2022

Daredevil takes on all comers! The Man Without Fear faces the maniac without pain: the irrepressible Madcap! But that's just a warmup for DD's rematch with one of his most powerful foes: Mister Hyde! And the hits just keep coming as Klaw, Master of Sound, makes some noise, Chance tries his luck and the savage Sabretooth crosses Daredevil's path right in the middle of the Mutant Massacre! Plus: DD's old flame, the Black Widow, returns — but will Matt seize a second chance at life with Karen Page instead? Meanwhile, Hell's Kitchen has more than its fair share of crime to fight — but why is Daredevil trading blows with Black Panther and Wolverine? And can a billy club stand up to adamantium claws? Collecting DAREDEVIL (1964) #234-252.
480 PGS./Rated T …$44.99
ISBN: 978-1-302-94594-7
Trim size: 6-5/8 x 10-3/16
Why It’s Cool: This is the compendium we need to ensure that more of the full run of Daredevil that was written by Ann Nocenti is back in print, and that is very very cool because that just so happens to be one of the best Daredevil runs of all time. (Zack Quaintance)

SABRETOOTH #5 (OF 5) - Due Out June 8
VICTOR LAVALLE (W) • LEONARD KIRK (A)
Cover by RYAN STEGMAN
variant cover by Peach Momoko
variant cover by Maria Wolf
ALL THINGS MUST END…
…but how? Sabretooth has changed Krakoa but has Krakoa changed him? No one gets away clean in this story. And maybe there are fates even worse than the Pit.
32 PGS./Parental Advisory …$3.99

Why It’s Cool: While the X-Men comics line in general has been in a bit of a holding period after the departure of Krakoa Era mastermind, Jonathan Hickman, this Sabretooth title has arrived to feel like one of the best individual series in years. It’s an incredibly smart comic, penned by novelist Victor LaValle (who after Destroyer and Eve with BOOM! Studios is doing increasingly interesting things in comics…), and it looks at the role of prison, the very concept of it all within the concept of the X-Men’s utopian (supposedly) society. It’s heady, a must-read superhero comic, and one of the best new ones so far this year. This issue is the miniseries’ finale. (Zack Quaintance)

32 PGS./Rated T …$3.99
Star Wars © Lucasfilm Ltd. & TM. All rights reserved. Used under authorization. Text and illustrations for Star Wars are © 2022 Lucasfilm Ltd.
Why It’s Cool: Dave Filoni might be the only person I can think of who has written more current canon Star Wars than Charles Soule. While all of that hasn’t been great, Soule has definitely beaten the magic Lucas ratio (50/50, when I’m feeling nice), and it’s exciting to see him get to return to the eras he’s touched. Expect to hear me clapping like a seal when I get to read his Poe and Kylo again. (Keigen Rea)

The Variants #1 (of 5) - Due Out June 22
Gail Simone (W) • PHIL NOTO (A/C) • Variant cover by Ashley Witter
Variant cover by Ben Caldwell • VARIANT COVER BY Skottie Young
What would it really be like to meet an alternate version of yourself, another you who had made different choices and lived a completely different life as a result? That's the question facing Jessica Jones, as what seemed like a routine investigation instead has her encountering other incarnations of herself from across the Multiverse. Can Jessica get along with herself? Will she want to kill her other selves? And will seeing the lives she could have led drive her into a self-destructive spiral? This is what happens when you meet…the Variants!
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99
Why It’s Cool: Jessica Jones solving a murder mystery with all the variants of Jessica Jones is such a cool concept. feels very Being John Malkovich mixed with Murder on the Orient Express. Also, Gail Simone is a smart and sharp writer and Phil Noto is fresh off doing some wicked stuff in Cable that I loved. Cherry on top will be the accompanying Skottie Young variant (yet to be shown). (Larry Jorash)
